A Manufacturing Maintenance & Reliability Engineer is needed in the Redwood City, CA area for a hands-on position to reduce equipment downtime, implement a real preventive maintenance program, and keep production operating at peak efficiency. This role also oversees two maintenance technicians and works closely with the Production Manager and company leadership.
Maintenance & Reliability Engineer Responsibilities
- Build and implement a structured PM system for encapsulation, bottling, mixing, and auxiliary equipment.
- Develop PM schedules, checklists, documentation, spare parts lists, and place parts orders.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and PLC-related issues on:
- Bosch and Sejong encapsulation machines
- Bottle filling, capping, labeling, and packaging lines
- Mixers, conveyors, utilities, air compressors, vacuum pumps
- Conduct root-cause analysis to prevent repeat failures.
- Systems, Controls & Process Reliability
- Work with PLCs, sensors, motors, drives, and control panels.
- Calibrate and maintain instrumentation affecting quality and throughput.
- Partner with Production and QA to optimize performance and stability.
- Supervise two maintenance technicians, set priorities, and manage workload.
- Track MTBF, MTTR, downtime drivers, and repair history.
- Identify bottlenecks and recommend long-term improvements.
Maintenance & Reliability Engineer Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ hands-on maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment with electromechanical, pneumatic, and PLC-based equipment.
- Experience in maintenance leadership or supervisory work, including ownership of PM programs.
- Strong diagnostic ability across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Experience with automated production equipment (fillers, cappers, conveyors, mixers, etc.).
- PLC operation and basic diagnostics (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Omron, Mitsubishi, etc.).
- Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and ladder logic.
- Experience managing contractors, vendors, and small teams.
- Strong problem-solving instincts and a reliability-focused mindset.
- Clear communication and documentation skills.
Maintenance & Reliability Engineer Preferred Skills & Experience
- Experience in a nutraceuticals or pharma encapsulation facility.
- Hands-on experience with Bosch or Sejong encapsulation machines.
- CMMS use and/or formal reliability tools (TPM, 5 Whys, RCA).
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering or related.
- Experience with control panel wiring, VFDs, sensors, or instrumentation.
- Bilingual English/Spanish.
