Serves as the practice leader/advocate for Pathology Evening and Night staff in order to accomplish organizational and departmental strategic goals and objectives.
Coordinates services and provides leadership for all clinical areas on the evening and night shifts.
Has evening and night shift 7 days week accountability for assigned areas.
Assists director with direction of personnel and operations of the Laboratory Section and assumes responsibility for these daily activities in the absence of the director.
Defines operational standards, organizes department-level activities to achieve optimum service delivery/systems/care/processes, setting high performance objectives for the department.
Holds self and others accountable to meet stated objectives, outcomes, goals, timetables, and commitments, adhering to standards even in the face of unforeseen circumstances.
Performs patient testing using medical instrumentation and approved, standardized methods.
Interviews, recommends hiring of, trains, orients, schedules, evaluates, assigns work to, develops, counsels, disciplines and terminates personnel in accordance with hospital and departmental policies.
Organizes and directs activities of personnel assigned to the evening and night shifts.
Communicates administrative and operational changes to assigned personnel. Serve as a resource person for shift personnel and other health professionals, gives advice and directions concerning more complex/sensitive problems encountered.
Ensures that instruments and equipment used during the evening and night shifts are in proper working order and that minor adjustment and repairs are made as necessary; notifies Section Supervisor of any major repairs needed.
Ensures compliance with hospital and departmental policies, procedures, practices and compliance with standards established by regulatory agencies.
Assists in maintaining adequate inventory of supplies.
Keeps abreast of current developments in the clinical laboratory field.
Serves as a resource person for Section personnel and other health professionals; gives advice and direction concerning more complex/sensitive problems encountered.
Reviews results of tests performed in the Sections on a daily basis to maintain quality of the testing.
Monitors the workload to assure timely completion of patient testing and other related activities (i.e. quality control, equipment maintenance, function checks, etc.).
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Medical Laboratory Science or related field, which includes a one-year internship in an approved clinical laboratory required.
Minimum 2 years’ clinical laboratory experience to fulfill CLIA regulations required.
Current and valid Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or equivalent certification with the American Society of Clinical Pathology or other equivalent certifying agency required.
Position reports to the Director of the Lab.
The hospital will offer a range between $27.91hr-$40.00hr depending on experience.
The position also offers a full benefit package including relocation.
