Summary:
Administers skilled direct and indirect patient care to an assigned group of patients. Follows the nursing process of assessment, intervention, reassessment and evaluation while providing care. As a member of the perioperative team, adheres to high standards of patient safety, ensuring compliance with local, state and federal regulations. Care will be provided utilizing discipline specific standards of care (AWHONN, AAP, ACOG, etc). Demonstrates behaviors and decisions that are in alignment with providing compassionate quality care.
Admissions, discharges, maternal infant transfers, bladder distention/elimination, bonding assessment, pain management PCA, assist with speculum exam, assist with suture removal, assist with epidural catheter, Monitor labor, fetal heartbeat, internal and external fetal monitoring, prepare pateitn for delivery, internal and external uterrine monitoring, PROM premature labor, placenta disposal, culture, etc.

Responsibilities:
- Provides direct patient care in accordance with physician orders in a warm and friendly manner.
- Takes and records measurements or readings.
- Utilizes critical thinking to set priorities for patient care.
- Recognizes, documents, intervenes, and follows up on problems or potential problems utilizing the chain of command.
- Recognizes and report signs of abuse or domestic violence.
- Delegates appropriate tasks based on acuity of patient and skill level of resource staff.
- Provides leadership while working collaboratively with other care givers on the unit..
- Develops, coordinates and presents continuing education regarding newborn feeding for staff and the community (lactation specialist only).
- Participates in developing and monitoring lactation standards (lactation specialist only).
- Works with patients related to (and maintains strong knowledge of) the physiology of lactation, implications of ineffective lactation, signs and symptoms of infection, and ineffective maternal coping skills (lactation specialist only).
- Performs other functions as assigned.

Requirements:
- BSN or ADN or Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field and current Ohio RN License.
- Two (2) years of nursing experience.
- Current CPR designation, or obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Ability to read, write and explain or describe moderately complex information to other hospital staff.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate well in an oral and written manner, as well as the ability to observe, assess, guide, and evaluate others.
- Ability to read, calculate and prepare medication, as well as the ability to observe and analyze any resulting reactions and to apply clinical knowledge.
- Works independently and under pressure in a complex and changing working environment.
- Demonstrates competence in age-specific patient care.
- Current IBCLC certification or within two years of hire (lactation specialist only).
