Senior Technical Support Engineer (Level III)
Reports to: Technical Manager
Shift: M F, 8:00am 5:00pm, overtime and schedule changes as needed
Location: Clinton, NY
Travel: 20 40% to local facilities, domestic and international overnight travel
The Sr. Technical Support Engineer (Technical Support Engineer III) is a high-level, senior member of our team. They command a very high degree of proficiency in electronics assembly materials and processes. Specifically, this person is highly-skilled with SMT processes and techniques, SMT equipment, general soldering for electronics assembly, solder alloys, and solder fluxes. The Sr. Technical Support Engineer also has a highly-developed network within the global electronics assembly industry (co-suppliers, customers, industry associations, colleagues, and more). They are responsible for providing leading edge, high level technical support to Indium Corporations customers, potential customers, and sales staff. Due to their senior position and experience, their role also includes conceiving and devising projects, assisting with staff career development, marketing guidance, and more. The Sr. Technical Support Engineer has learned, mastered, and demonstrated unique and specific skills and information throughout their career. They are responsible for at least one sales territory and for leading other engineers. They train and evaluate colleagues on unique and general information.
Provide expert technical assistance and guidance to Indium Corporations customers and potential customers to resolve soldering process-related issues
Collaborate with Global and Regional Account Managers, as well as Technical Support Engineers throughout Indium
Corporation, to develop strategies to maintain existing accounts and to acquire new business
High-level customer engagement, providing insightful, advanced technical solutions.
Excellent project management and planning, including 6-sigma, GANTT charts, discerning value in data.
High skill level with customers' production equipment.
Utilize in-depth knowledge of Indium Corporations materials and surface mount technology (SMT) process, coupled with knowledge and capability in statistical analysis and DOEs, to optimize the use of Indium Corporations soldering materials in the customers process
Provide product and process training to customers, within Indium Corporations, and at industry conferences
Using Indium Corporations SimLab, as well as equipment at equipment partner sites, execute process optimization, product characterization and benchmark testing of Indium Corporations soldering materials to meet/exceed defined performance requirements
Develop and maintain strong technical relationships and collaborate with industry partners and equipment suppliers
Provide technical support to Indium Corporations Marketing department in the development of new materials and test methods to characterize them
Provide technical support to Indium Corporations Marcom department in the development of promotional materials such as literature, websites, exhibits, etc.
Communicate technical insights and product performance data collected from customer visits and evaluations to pertinent departments within Indium Corporation including R&D, Quality, Manufacturing and Technical Support
Assist in the development of internal and external test methods
Develop and maintain hands-on knowledge and expertise of the processes and equipment used in the various soldering
processes and SMT industries, including, but not limited to, solder paste printing, dispensing, 3-D inspection, placement,
reflow, dipping, X-Ray, ICT, and rework
Participate in new product development, including: new product ideation, scale-up, beta testing, and rollout
Responsible for technical support services for at least one sales territory
Trains and evaluates colleagues on unique and general information
Demonstrates leadership of corporate cultural values, including The Indium Way.
Disseminate/share key technical knowledge within Indium Corporation via reports and/or participation in weekly/monthly
Participate in applicable professional societies, industry consortia, and industry standards development groups to promote
Indium Corporations image, maintain contact with industry leaders/experts and determine performance requirements for
Indium Corporations new and existing materials
Build strong technical relationships with targeted individuals at Indium Corporations largest current and target customers
Plan, prepare and present quality technical papers and presentations at technical conferences, seminars, and customers,
as well as in support of new product introductions
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
Technical undergraduate degree (BS in Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Metallurgy, or Materials Science)
15 years of direct technical experience in applied materials science, electronics assembly techniques, and/or electronics
assembly technical service
Demonstrated technical competency
Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
Ability to work , with ease, with executive-level counterparts
Strong alignment with the corporate and departmental missions.
Ability to work cooperatively and effectively in a cross-functional team environment
Ability to travel with limited notice
Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Experience with JMP or Minitab, preferred
