Mobile Equipment Controls | Electro-Hydraulic Systems | OEM Engineering
Location: Greater Milwaukee, WI | Onsite
Base Salary: $100,000–$130,000, depending on qualifications and experience
Are you an engineer who enjoys taking ownership of projects from concept through implementation? Do you thrive on technical variety, solving complex problems, and seeing your designs come to life?
Our client, an established, privately held engineering and manufacturing company in southeastern Wisconsin, is seeking a Control Systems Project Engineer to develop customized electronic control solutions for mobile and off-highway equipment manufacturers.
You’ll work on diverse OEM applications across construction, forestry, mining, and other specialized equipment markets, integrating electronic controls, software, hydraulics, and mechanical systems. This is an opportunity to take ownership of challenging projects rather than focus on a single product or engineering specialty.
· Competitive compensation: $100,000–$130,000 base salary, depending on experience.
· Additional earning opportunities: Sign-on, retention, and profit-sharing bonuses.
· Project ownership: Work from initial requirements and system design through testing and implementation.
· Technical variety: Develop customized control solutions for a range of mobile equipment applications.
· Company stability: Join an established, privately held organization with strong employee retention and long-term customer relationships.
· Comprehensive benefits: Medical, dental, vision, disability coverage, 401(k) match, paid time off, and tuition reimbursement.
· Employee wellness: Onsite fitness facilities, personal fitness coaching, and chiropractic services.
As a Control Systems Project Engineer, you’ll design and implement electronic control systems for mobile equipment OEM customers. Working with multidisciplinary engineering teams, manufacturing personnel, and customers, you’ll develop solutions integrating electronic controls with hydraulic and mechanical systems.
Your responsibilities will include system design, electrical schematics, control logic, component selection, testing, troubleshooting, and implementation across multiple projects.
· Develop electronic control systems from initial requirements through design, testing, and implementation.
· Design solutions integrating mobile controllers, electro-hydraulics, motion controls, joysticks, displays, and sensors.
· Develop electrical schematics, specify components, and coordinate wiring harness design.
· Develop, modify, and troubleshoot control logic and software for mobile equipment applications.
· Integrate electronic controls with hydraulic and mechanical systems.
· Collaborate with OEM customers, engineering teams, suppliers, and manufacturing personnel.
· Support design reviews, system testing, troubleshooting, and equipment commissioning.
· Manage multiple projects while maintaining technical documentation and schedules.
· Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required; Electrical Engineering preferred.
· Five or more years of relevant engineering experience preferred. Highly qualified candidates with less experience will be considered.
· Experience designing, developing, or integrating electronic control systems.
· Mobile equipment controls experience strongly preferred, including CAN bus, SAE J1939, Parker IQAN, or comparable platforms.
· Understanding of electro-hydraulic systems, motion controls, sensors, and actuators.
· Experience developing or troubleshooting control logic and software.
· Ability to develop and interpret electrical schematics; SOLIDWORKS Electrical experience is a plus.
· Strong problem-solving, project coordination, and communication skills.
This is a 100% onsite position in the Greater Milwaukee area, with scheduling flexibility and occasional travel. You’ll work closely with engineering and manufacturing teams in a hands-on environment where engineers remain involved throughout the project lifecycle, including testing and troubleshooting.
Unlike controls engineering positions focused primarily on programming or maintaining existing equipment, this role offers the opportunity to develop complete electronic control solutions for a variety of OEM mobile equipment applications.
You’ll combine electronic controls, hydraulics, and mechanical systems to solve real-world engineering challenges while taking ownership of projects from concept through implementation.
