Analytical Systems Engineer (Software)

A global engineering and manufacturing organization is seeking an Analytical Systems Engineer to support the development and application of advanced System Analysis of current proprietary software used by sales, service, application engineering, and select customers. This position will focus primarily on the engineering calculations and algorithms that power analytical software used to model products in the field, evaluate component performance, and support complex engineering decisions.

This person will combine mechanical engineering expertise with software development and systems analysis skills to develop new analytical capabilities, improve existing tools, and provide technical support to software users and development teams. This is a highly technical role that offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of mechanical engineering, mathematical modeling, and engineering software development.

Design and coordinate detailed phases of major software development initiatives supporting System Analysis, with a primary focus on developing and implementing new or modified engineering algorithms.

Develop and improve analytical methods for component modeling, system modeling, equilibrium calculations, and mechanical performance predictions.

Evaluate alternative technical approaches and apply engineering and software development best practices to create accurate, sustainable, and effective analytical solutions.

Research and incorporate emerging best practices in mechanical modeling, engineering analysis, and software development from within the organization and broader industry.

Evaluate existing and emerging analytical software solutions to determine opportunities to purchase, develop, consolidate, upgrade, or retire engineering applications.

Translate engineering fundamentals and analytical concepts into practical software solutions that provide measurable value to engineering and business users.

Apply mechanical engineering principles and software development methodologies while adhering to established engineering and software standards.

Support the ongoing development, enhancement, maintenance, and troubleshooting of existing System Analysis tools.

Provide technical support and guidance to software developers, engineers, internal software users, and occasionally customers.

Assist engineering teams in effectively using analytical software and resolving technical issues associated with engineering analysis applications.

Read, interpret, and troubleshoot source code across multiple programming languages and analytical software platforms.

Manage multiple development and support activities while consistently meeting established project and business deadlines.

Collaborate with cross-functional engineering and software development teams to identify opportunities for improving analytical capabilities and engineering processes.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline required.

Experience in Application Engineering, Engineering Software Development, Systems Analysis, or a related technical field preferred.

Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles including statics, fatigue, power flow, torque, and mechanical system performance.

Working knowledge of system modeling, quasi-static equilibrium, mechanical component analysis, and performance prediction methodologies.

Understanding of software development concepts, programming principles, analytical algorithms, and mathematical modeling.

Ability to read, understand, and troubleshoot source code written in multiple programming languages, including FORTRAN, C/C++, C#, VB6, VBA, and VB.NET.

Experience with MATLAB or similar mathematical and engineering analysis software preferred.

Strong analytical, mathematical, and logical reasoning abilities.

Ability to translate complex engineering concepts and calculations into effective software solutions.

Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively under development and customer support deadlines.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with engineers, software developers, internal users, and customers.

Team-oriented professional with the ability to work independently and manage multiple technical priorities simultaneously.
