Own the Engineering! Bring Complex, Custom-Built Equipment to Life!
Are you a hands-on mechanical engineer who enjoys turning customer requirements into real, working equipment? This is an opportunity to take ownership of engineered-to-order projects from engineering kickoff through fabrication, assembly, testing, shipment, and start-up support—working closely with a highly technical team and seeing your designs become finished systems.
The Company
The company designs and delivers custom, turnkey industrial equipment built around each customer’s process. Rather than supplying only one component, the team brings together the major systems required for a complete solution. This company owners have recently expanded with a new energetic management team that is growing the business.
- Custom-engineered equipment integrating mechanical structures and assemblies with heating, pumping, cooling, gas delivery, instrumentation, and controls.
- A technically focused organization of approximately 50 employees, including an engineering team of roughly 12–13.
- A project environment centered on engineered-to-order systems and customer-specific designs—not simply off-the-shelf equipment.
- The company’s founders remain actively involved, bringing decades of technical experience as the organization continues to build its engineering and operational infrastructure.
For an engineer who wants to stay close to the design while owning project execution, this opportunity offers the chance to work across the full equipment lifecycle and collaborate directly with engineering, manufacturing, vendors, and customers.
Why This Opportunity Stands Out
The strongest candidate will be an engineer first: someone who can personally develop and check mechanical designs, understand how the full system fits together, and take practical ownership when design decisions meet real manufacturing and test conditions. A new management team is growing the business rapidly. Be part of a fast moving growth organization working with the latest technologies.
They Value and Appreciate Their Employees
This is a technically engaged environment where engineering work connects directly to what is built in the shop and delivered to customers.
- Meaningful technical ownership of custom equipment projects, from design development through build and test.
- Close collaboration with experienced engineering leadership and cross-functional teammates.
- Opportunities to broaden system-level knowledge across mechanical design, utilities, instrumentation, controls interfaces, and manufacturing.
- Room to contribute ideas that improve drawing quality, engineering standards, project execution, and team practices.
Your Role with the Company
As a Project Engineer, you will independently lead standard-to-moderate-complexity engineered-to-order projects using established engineering methods. This is not a pure project-management position: the successful person is a hands-on engineer who can personally perform mechanical design work while coordinating the interfaces, control systems and execution needed to deliver a complete system.
You may work on single-system equipment, repeat or derivative designs, and moderately customized customer configurations. Projects can involve multiple integrated equipment elements, such as structural supports, mechanical assemblies, piping and utilities, heating and cooling systems, pumping, gas delivery, instrumentation, and customer-specific controls interfaces.
Community Information
Lowell is in the greater Boston area, offering access to a mix of suburban communities, regional employment centers, and Boston-area amenities.
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred or an equivalent technical degree.
- 1+ years of hands-on mechanical and equipment design experience.
- Demonstrated ownership of engineered-to-order or custom capital-equipment projects, or major system scopes, from design through fabrication/build and test. Will consider solid Engineer w/ less experience with the right attitude.
- Strong hands-on systems engineering capability, including mechanical design, 3D CAD, drawings, equipment layouts, electrical and controls integration and engineering calculations or sizing.
- Ability to develop and maintain engineering schedules, managing deliverables, identifying problems early, and driving recovery plans.
- Exposuer or ability to work with P&ID (Process and Instrumentation Diagram) or (piping and instrumentation diagrams) or process and utility diagrams
- Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary interfaces across mechanical, electrical, controls, manufacturing/shop, vendors, and customers.
- A manufacturing/project-ownership mindset: able to work through shop and FAT issues, communicate scope changes, and remain accountable for technical execution—not just track project status.
- Experience preparing and controlling engineering documentation, drawing revisions, and release packages.
- Ability to work within established standards, recognize when a problem exceeds personal expertise, and escalate technical or safety risks appropriately.
