Senior Accountant USA

Primary Responsibility

We are seeking a high-calibre Senior Accountant to support the US finance function through accurate reporting, strong financial analysis, and effective business partnering. The role is responsible for month-end close support, monthly performance reporting, reconciliations, revenue accounting activities including gross-to-net accounting and related accruals, and day-to-day treasury operations including payment processing, cash monitoring, and bank activity management within a pharmaceutical business. Reporting to the US VP of Finance, the position works closely with US business leaders, Group Finance, and cross-functional stakeholders in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities

1Prepare monthly financial reporting packages and supporting schedules for the US VP of Finance and Group Finance, including clear commentary for management reporting.2Support the monthly close process by preparing journal entries, reconciliations, accrual analyses, and analytical review of actual results.3Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations, investigate variances, and ensure key accounts are fully supported and accurately reported.4Own key aspects of gross-to-net accounting, including rebates, chargebacks, returns, distribution fees, and other relevant accruals, ensuring revenue is recognised accurately and in line with pharmaceutical industry requirements.5

Execute weekly payment runs, prepare and upload bank payments, monitor daily cash balances and bank activity, and perform bank reconciliations and treasury reporting, ensuring all transactions are accurately processed, approved, and recorded in line with internal controls and company policy.

6Assist with audits, compliance requirements, and ad hoc analysis, including support for process improvement and finance transformation initiatives.7Drive continuous improvement in reporting, forecasting, and data quality by leveraging systems, automation, and standardised processes.8

Qualifications & Experience

Required
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
  • CPA, ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualification preferred; strong candidates working toward qualification will also be considered
  • Minimum 6 years post-qualification or equivalent professional experience in accounting or financial reporting, with direct experience in the pharmaceutical, biotech, or broader life sciences sector

  • Strong understanding of monthly close, management reporting, reconciliations, and variance analysis

  • Hands-on experience with ERP systems and strong Excel skills
  • Experience working with cross-functional stakeholders and translating financial data into clear, practical insight
  • Strong attention to detail, controls awareness, and ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities
  • Experience of working within a group business and managing both local and group deadlines
  • Detailed hands-on experience of pharmaceutical revenue accounting, including gross-to-net reserves and accruals such as rebates, chargebacks, returns, and distribution-related adjustments

  • Practical hands-on experience in treasury operations, including preparing payment files, processing payments, monitoring cash balances, performing bank reconciliations, and maintaining strong controls over cash disbursements

  • Working knowledge of SAP S/4HANA
Desirable

  • Experience supporting internal or external audits and strengthening finance controls

  • Experience in a private equity-backed, high-growth, or transformation environment

  • Exposure to budgeting systems, automation tools, and process improvement initiatives

Skills & Competencies

Required
  • Strong technical accounting and financial analysis skills, with the ability to produce accurate, timely, and insightful reporting
  • Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical revenue accounting and gross-to-net processes, with the ability to assess reserve adequacy, analyse trends, and ensure accurate reporting of related accruals

  • Advanced Excel capability and confidence working with large datasets, reconciliations, and variance analysis
  • Ability to communicate clearly with finance and non-finance stakeholders and turn data into practical recommendations
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines across close, forecast, and ad hoc deliverables
  • Sound operational understanding of treasury processes, including payment execution, bank activity monitoring, cash management, and control requirements such as authorisation and segregation of duties

  • High attention to detail and a strong control mindset, including sound judgement around accuracy, compliance, and confidentiality
  • Proactive, hands-on approach with a continuous improvement mindset and willingness to challenge inefficiencies constructively
  • Collaborative style with the confidence to business partner across functions in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment
