Field Service Technician – Vapor Recovery & Emission Control Systems Fully Remote – Based anywhere in Canada | Full-Time | 75%+ Travel Pay: $55–$65 CAD/hour + overtime + per diem + bonus
The Role We’re a leading North American provider of vapor control and combustion-based emission solutions looking for an experienced Field Service Technician to support refinery, petrochemical, terminal, and marine loading customers across Canada (and occasionally the U.S.).
This is a true “road warrior” position: you work from home, jump on planes or drive the company truck to the job site, fix it, train the customer, and head home when the job is done. All tools, test equipment, company vehicle, fuel card, laptop, phone, and corporate card provided.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Commissioning, startup, and performance testing of vapor recovery units (VRUs), vapor combustors, flares, and marine vapor control systems
- Hands-on troubleshooting and repair of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and control systems
- Programming, loop-tuning, and logic modifications on PLCs & HMIs (Allen-Bradley, DeltaV, Wonderware, GE, etc.)
- Calibration of 4–20 mA instruments, VFDs, positioners, valves, actuators, and analyzers
- Red-lining P&IDs, electrical schematics, and fabrication drawings for as-built accuracy
- Emergency/on-call response when customers need you fast
Required Experience & Skills
- Strong field experience programming and troubleshooting PLC-based control systems (Allen-Bradley strongly preferred)
- Comfortable diagnosing 4–20 mA loops, PID tuning, VFD setup, and instrumentation calibration
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, loop drawings, and electrical one-lines
- Solid working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC)
- Clean driver’s abstract and ability to cross the U.S. border for work
- Willing and physically able to travel 75–90% (typically 1–3 weeks on site, then home)
Physical Demands
- Lift/carry up to 50 lbs occasionally, 25 lbs routinely
- Climb ladders, work at heights, crawl into tight spaces, work outdoors in all weather
- Long hours and shift work when required
Preferred (Not Required)
- Instrumentation or Electrical ticket (Red Seal / Journeyman)
- Advanced Allen-Bradley ControlLogix/Studio 5000 experience
- Previous field service on vapor recovery units, thermal oxidizers, flares, or marine vapor systems
- Background in refining, petrochemical, tank storage terminals, or marine loading facilities
- Familiarity with CSA B149.3, NFPA 56/59A, or marine vapor regulations
Compensation & Benefits
- $55–$65 CAD/hour base (higher considered for top-tier experience)
