Construction Superintendent (Earthwork-Utilities)
The Construction Superintendent oversees the on-site planning and execution of earthwork-related elements in construction projects. This includes scheduling earthwork, highway, utility, mass excavation, and other self-performed tasks; coordinating field crews; and developing work schedules to optimize labor, equipment, material costs, and subcontractor involvement. The role ensures projects are completed on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities :
- Coordinate daily operations, including work activities, site organization, and plan interpretation.
- Supervise and schedule field crews to ensure efficient workflow.
- Establish site objectives, timelines, and budgets for optimal project management.
- Procure necessary supplies and materials.
- Travel to various job sites as required.
- Lead by example, performing general labor duties when needed, such as shoveling, pipe installation, or other hands-on tasks.
- Operate heavy equipment if qualified and as required on-site.
- Maintain accurate records of time and materials for daily job costing.
Required Knowledge:
- Understand project budgets and production metrics to efficiently manage personnel and equipment.
- Read and interpret Critical Path Method (CPM) schedules to plan work, equipment, and staffing needs.
- Possess a solid understanding of all project plans and specifications.
- Knowledge of survey controls and grade checking procedures.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years' experience managing field crews in civil highway construction operations.
- Current OSHA 30-Hour Certification, or willingness to obtain it within 30 days of hire.
- Strong organizational, planning, written and verbal communication, and supervisory skills.
- Valid driver's license.
