Position Summary
We are seeking a Mechanics Team Lead to oversee our maintenance and mechanical team of 8-10 employees responsible for supporting production equipment, extruders, bag converting machinery, and recycling machines. This hands-on leadership role requires deep expertise in mechanical and electrical systems, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to prioritize work to keep our high-volume production lines running efficiently.
Key Responsibilities

Lead, supervise, and coordinate the activities of a team of mechanics, technicians, and maintenance staff, ensuring effective repair and maintenance of plant machinery and equipment.

Oversee maintenance of extruders, bag converting equipment, recycling machines, and other production machinery, ensuring optimal performance and minimal downtime.

Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues, troubleshoot, and repair equipment to minimize disruptions to production.

Prioritize and assign work orders to the maintenance team based on production schedules, safety considerations, and urgency.

Conduct routine inspections of equipment to identify potential issues and implement preventive maintenance measures.

Train and mentor team members on machinery troubleshooting, repair best practices, safety procedures, and company standards.

Collaborate closely with production leadership to plan maintenance activities with minimal impact on production output.

Ensure all maintenance work complies with OSHA safety standards and company policies.

Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance activities.

Support continuous improvement initiatives by recommending upgrades, modifications, and process improvements to enhance equipment reliability and efficiency.

Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork within the maintenance team.
Qualifications

Education: Technical diploma, certification, or degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance preferred, or equivalent experience.

Experience: 5+ years of hands-on maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 2 years in a leadership or team lead role.

Strong expertise in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, preferably in plastics extrusion, packaging, or industrial production.

Proven ability to lead and develop a team of mechanics and technicians effectively.

Solid understanding of preventive maintenance programs, equipment troubleshooting, and repair methodologies.

PLC troubleshooting and programming skills are a plus, supporting automation-heavy environments.

CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) experience is a plus to ensure effective maintenance data tracking and preventive maintenance program effectiveness.

Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure to resolve equipment issues promptly.

Good communication, organizational, and leadership skills.

Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and equipment diagrams.

Spanish language skills are a plus, but not required.
